Modelling Continued

Today's session saw the continuation of adding details to the house model.  Changes were made earlier on to the model with the corner brickwork.  This was done to match existing design brickwork from the 19th century.  Figures 78 and 80 show the updated model design work based off the image in figure 81.

To further aide in research and reference images, some photographs were taken around university campus in Liverpool city centre, of architectural influences for the model house design, relevant to 19th century architecture.  Figure 82 relates to the brickwork pattern on the corner of the house being created using blocks.

Further detail was added to the drain pipes by adding curves and removing faces to imitate real drain pipes.

The models were aided by more research and reference images taken around university campus in Liverpool city centre, looking at drain pipe features as seen in figure 85.

Other images taken of drain pipes were taken for reference images for the drain pipes brackets, holding the drainpipes in places against the building, relevant to 19th century architecture, as seen in figures 86-88.

Other photographs taken around the city centre included images of drainpipe hoppers, as seen in figures 89-92, which were common place on Georgian and Victorian architecture for their drainage systems. Below is an extract  from Hall & Botterill Cast Aluminium Products, explaining the use and relevance of drainpipe hoppers in the 19th century.

'A hopper head fitted just below a gutter was the Victorian way of enabling their drain pipes in heavy rain to carry 66% more water.  How I hear you cry? Water flowing from a gutter down a drain pipe only runs a third full. However, if you put a hopper head in the system with the outlet pipe from the gutter at least 100mm from the base of the hopper head in heavy rainfall the hopper head fills up with water and hey presto it becomes a siphonic system, causing the drain pipe to run full of water.' (Patterson, 2018).

Another mood board was created in preparation for creating chimney pots in co-ordination with the design of the 19th century architecture like the rest of the house model.  An additional photograph was taken around university campus in Liverpool, this time of relevant Georgian and Victorian designed chimney pots, as seen in figure 95, to be used as a reference image and research for creating a similar styled chimney pot for the model house.

Music

Dean Hughes, the music student the group had met and discussed creating a soundtrack with for the game contacted the group and sent a initial composition to played on loop for the character.  A reply was sent and a copy was forwarded to the other members of the group to discuss and give feedback to Dean.
