Block Out Continued

Adding further elements to the block out model of the house, mood boards were created to look at outside porches for the house, to align the design to the architecture of the 19th century and also creating a mood board looking at chimney breasts and their location in terms of Victorian and Georgian property construction and design.

The reasoning behind creating further mood boards for elements such as outside porches an chimneys is to look closer to designs of the period to keep the house authentic to the time period the game is being set in the 19th Century.

After referencing the relevant images as part of historical research on Victorian and Georgian architecture, the block out model was adapted accordingly, as can be seen in figure 34 and 35.

This design has been taken from some of the images found on Pinterest, creating the mood board for research purposes for the outside porch.

Pillars holding up a flat roof over the front door are common sight with architecture from the 19th century.

The next element to be added to the block out house was the location of the chimneys.  This was discussed with Connor Burdett the interior creator as the chimney locations would also impact on Connor's section.  As with the porches, research was carried out for location of Georgian and Victorian chimney location within architectural designs and then a mood board was created.

After a discussion with Connor about the location of the chimneys on the house, changes were made to accommodate the chimneys by moving and adapting elements in the interior section so to much match up with the exterior elements and keeping the models to historical accuracy's of the 19th Century.

As can be seen from figures 45 and 46, the model block out chimney locations have been designed to replicate that from the mood board images from Pinterest in figures 40-44.

Music

Carrying on from yesterday in regards to discussions about adding music to the game, the group met a music student to discuss a collaboration in terms of the music student creating musical pieces for the game.  As a result the discussion went well and the music student, Dean Hughes, agreed to try and create some music that could be used in the game at certain elements to help create an atmosphere, setting the mood the scene and help create suspense.  It was explained to Dean that the game would be a horror, based off Resident Evil, (Capcom, 1996), Halloween, (Carpenter, 1978), Sleepy Hollow, (Burton, 1999) and elements of Alien Isolation, (Creative Assembly, 2014).

To help aide Dean with the creation of the music, the group presentation was emailed to read through the game concept idea being created.

Further discussion took place with the group programmer Chandler Pope-Lewis over size of the exterior of the map.  As a result a OBJ file has been sent to Chandler as to whether the exterior map needs to be increased or downsized.
